Success is no accident. It takes vision, hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love for what you are doing or learning to do.

I started out as a learn-as-you-go web developer way back in 2002. Ohhh! how technology has changed since then. I'm always learning new and exciting tech and trends. I am a problem-solver and very fortunate that the tech industry is ever-evolving, ensuring daily exciting challenges.

I enjoy working on solutions where hi-end tech is used, NLP, AI, Cloud computing, Machine Learning, Voice analysis, Speech recognition, Biometrics.

Most of all, I am extremely excited about what the future world of tech holds!!

Hendrik

Assistive Technology Specialist & AD Consultant

I was born in Vereeniging and went to the Pioneer school for the blind in Worcester in the Western Cape.

After I finished my secondary education, I went to study at the Northwest University campus in Vanderbijlpark where I completed my Honors degree in languages and translation studies. Thereafter I was a junior Lecturer in this field for five years for first year to third year students with my focus area being audio description as inter-symbiotic translation.

I then accepted a transfer to the newly formed disability rights unit (DRU) where I worked for five years as an Assistive Technology Specialist – ensuring that students with special needs had the support needed to complete their studies – be it physically, technologically or mentally.

I am currently employed by the South African National Council for the Blind in Pretoria as an Assistive Technology Specialist ensuring that people with visual problems have the technology they need to improve not only quality of life, but live in a more accessible world with more independence and on an equal footing with their sighted peers.

I am also a consultant at Shazacin Accessible Media where I help to do audio editing, construct audio described tours and ensuring that the final product meet expectations.

I firmly believe that visually impaired people have just as many rights as their sighted peers and that, through my efforts (and those of companies like Shazacin), we are making this vision happen.
